About Al Ghurair University
Al Ghurair University was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khazim Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement Dubai’s 2030 vision, which aims at building a knowledge-based economy that effectively contributes to the development of the UAE.
Al Ghurair University’s main campus is located in Dubai, while it operates with another campus in Sharjah, and presently offers bachelor degrees in Computer, Communication, Electronic, Software, Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering, Master’s and Doctorate degree programs in Computer, Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering, in addition to Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Information Security and International and Civil Security.
In the future, Al Ghurair University will also offer degrees in other disciplines of Engineering, Logistics and Management and Life Sciences which include bachelor degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Moreover, Al Ghurair University will include research centres in disciplines such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Energy, Nanotechnology, Aerospace and Health Sciences.
Al Ghurair University is open to men and women from all nationalities with particular emphasis being placed on educating young UAE nationals.

President
Speaker Profile: Prof. Tod A. Laursen is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of computational mechanics, and has made particular contributions to prediction tools that engineers and scientists use in the analysis of mechanical contact, impact, and friction. A graduate of Stanford University and Oregon State University, he is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM). His academic career has included appointments in three fields of engineering (mechanical, civil and biomedical), with teaching and research emphases in engineering computation, engineering mechanics, and finite element methods for nonlinear mechanical and structural systems. His administrative accomplishments have featured development of innovative academic programs in engineering and other technical and scientific disciplines, with emphasis on interdisciplinary and international programs.
Executive Vice President
Speaker Profile: Dr. Arif Al Hammadi provides comprehensive direction and strategic coordination for the expansion and management of Al Ghurair University. A graduate of the University of London, Queen Mary College, and Etisalat University College, Dr. Al Hammadi is a member of the Board of Directors at Strata, Mubadala’s composite aerostructures manufacturing facility and is a member in several professional societies including the IET and IEEE. Previously, he served as Chair of the IEEE computer Society Chapter from 2003-2008.
Senior Vice President, Research and Development
Speaker Profile: Dr. Al-Mualla provides leadership and strategic direction in all academic affairs of Al Ghurair University, including academic programs, graduate studies, research and development, and all related matters including student enrollment and affairs, budget, human resources, and human resource development. His professional achievements include leading the development of many academic programs, most notably the Ph.D. in Engineering degree which is the first Ph.D. in Engineering degree to be accredited in the UAE. A graduate of the University of Bristol and Etisalat University College, he is founding Chair of the IEEE UAE Signal Processing & Communication Chapter, and is a member of a number of professional societies.
